Thankfulness Feb 23: Donate Life Week

Today is the launch of Donate Life Week.  DonateLife Week is Australia's national awareness week to promote organ and tissue donation.

Obviously we have a vested interest in talking about organ donation.  Organ and tissue donation saves lives. One donor can transform the lives of up to 10 people and significantly improve the lives of many more.  Anyone who has been reading this blog for awhile will know how organ donation has transformed Ashlea's life.

Please watch Ashlea's video supporting Donate Life week (video link):

Today I am thanking God for:

166.  The advances in medicine that have occurred over the last 100 years meaning organ transplantation is now a successful, viable option for people with end stage organ failure;

167.  Access to world class health care - without it Ashlea wouldn't be alive.  (Australia boasts one of the highest transplantation success rates in the world. Kidney transplant survival rates are about 90% in the first year and over 75% in five years. Patient survival rates for heart and liver transplantation are also 90% in the first year and 85% after five years. Pancreas transplants have the highest survival rate of 94% at one year and 87% at five years);

168.  Murray's willingness to donate his kidney to Ashlea.  Without it she would have spent the last two years on dialysis instead of spending it growing, thriving and flourishing since her transplant.

1 Chronicles 29:13
Now, our God we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

My oldest daughter is a sugurical tech for a donor group in Northern Ca. She travels all over on call to help harvest. Im so proud of her and the work she does. It changes so many lives. Many as I wasnt aware just want it all involves until my daughter started doing this about five years ago. It is amazing to me. Blessings and will pray always for those in need and those to be willing to donate and that people would become more aware of how important this is and how it can change many lives.
