Thankfulness May 31

Today I am thanking God for:

Free lollies!

495.  Leftover goodies from Carolin's week long work party;

496.   Panadeine for the headache I woke up with;

497.  The Wii to entertain the girls while the panadeine was kicking in;

498.  Afternoon tea with some mums while our kids played harmoniously together - harmony is not always guaranteed so it's lovely when it ensues.  Clearly my headache was gone by then;

499.  Julie's lemonade cake - SO good.

Thankfulness May 30

Today I am thanking God for:

Tom is taking over...

492.  Some ideas for Murray's Big Birthday.  At the moment I am torn between bowling and laser tag (oh how his mother would love that) or barefoot bowls.  Thoughts...?

493.  Pre-cut veggies to roast for dinner (anything to make cooking easier);

494.  And something that Ashlea is very thankful for today - inexplicably the youtube clips of Talking Tom that she watches obsessively on her iPad  started playing through the TV this afternoon. Randomly.  It appears she made her iPad sync with the TV (how does a child who can barely read manage this???) and now the only thing I can watch is Tom....  Ashlea is quite delighted by this development.  I am starting to worry that Tom really is taking over this household!!

Thankfulness May 29

Today I need advice before I give thanks!

Somehow Murray's Very Significant Birthday has snuck up on me - it's in two weeks time and I haven't organised a thing.  My options are to have a small family afternoon tea at home OR to go all out and have a huge gathering to celebrate this milestone.  After everything that's happened I'd quite like to have a great big party for him (you're all invited)....but where to have it?  What do you think?  Any and all suggestions welcome!

Today I am thanking God for:

489.  Ashlea and her wonderful way with words.  Her description of nappy rash:  MUM!  My bottom is burning like fire!!!;

490.  Eucalyptus oil with which to wage war on ants (and the sight of all those dead ant bodies is rather satisfying too);

491.  Friends.

Thankfulness May 28

Did you know that this week is Kidney Health Week?

You should all know by now that kidneys are sneaky things.  1 in 3 people are at risk of kidney disease - you can click here to see if you're one of them.

Today I am thanking God for:

486.  Good kidney function for everyone in our household at the moment;

487.  Ashlea's kidney team;

488.  The perfect retro birthday present for a certain husband's Big Birthday next month - tickets to the upcoming Queen show.  We're going to get our inner bogan happening.  Anyone got a lighter I can borrow to take to the concert?

Thankfulness May 27

Today I am thanking God for:

483.  A new modem and restored internet connection;

484.  A slightly tidier house - not because I used my internet free time to tidy but because I used the lure of restored internet to get my little minions to clean their rooms;

485.  The chance to mind a doggie for a few days to see what it's REALLY like.  IF we got a dog we would get a trained assistance dog, but before we even consider it we are going to borrow a friend's dog for a few days while they're away to see if I can cope with the reality of picking up dog poop.

Thankfulness May 26

Today I am thanking God for:

The source of my frustration...

480.  That our modem chose one of the rare Mondays I wasn't work to give up the ghost;

481.  The man who checked our DSL line not charging us even though the fault is actually at our end;

482.  Audrey's braveness at the dentist today.  I didn't want her to be traumatised by the dentist like I was as a child so I paid as much again as the procedure for her to have IV sedation (OUCH).  The anaesthetist was quite impressed with how well she handled it all. I think he was a bit surprised at how calm I was too until I gave him a condensed version of our story and he got the idea that a few fillings under sedation are small potatoes for our family.

Cavoodles of cuteness

Take me home...

Please Mummy

You may be surprised to know that I weathered the storm of cuteness and pleading and managed to not give in to buying this little bundle of cuteness.  Although I am still tempted to go back....look at that face!  Could I stand the poop though?  And the fur?  And the chewing???  I don't know.  I do know that Audrey in particular would love love love a pet and I often feel that she misses out as the 'middle child'....and it would make her SO happy.... but the poop....but the cuteness....argh!

Today I am thanking God for:

477.  The wisdom not to make a spontaneous puppy purchase;

478.  Church;

479.  Kids bedtime!!!

Thankfulness May 24

Today I am thankful for:

Ashlea a couple of years ago
Images by TimnMay

474.  God's wisdom that is so much wiser than ours;
In the eyes of the world it would be easy to look at our family and see us as a tragedy. An object of pity.  Dare I say it I think even other Christians view us as an object of pity - a child with serious disabilities, a husband with a brain injury. Who wants that??? Thank God that His wisdom is so different to worldly wisdom. Thank God that He promises to use the foolish and weak things of this world to shame the wise.  Disability does not preclude Ashlea or Murray from being in God's kingdom.  They will stand firm on the last day because of Jesus when many of the so called wise will not.

475.  The reminder not to chase after the world's wisdom;

476.  The wise - yet foolish sounding message of the bible - Christ the power and wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:25-30
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.  But God chose the foolishthings of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,  so that no one may boast before him.  It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

OK, so no prizes for guessing I have been at Equip today - thank God for the great bible teaching year after year at that conference.  Today we were encouraged to come up with a hashtag of our own to sum up the day's teaching.  I couldn't come up with one so I'm going to steal someone else's awesome one:  #notfoolishforever.  How good is that?  By God's grace what seems foolish now will one day bring glory to Him.  Come Lord Jesus.

Thankfulness May 23

Today I am thanking God for:

471.  Amazing advances in medicine that allowed Australia's largest kidney swap to occur in Melbourne yesterday with 6 donors giving 6 kidney recipients a new chance at life and health (more here);

472.  Amazingly awesome advances in research with Australian researchers printing miniature kidneys in the lab.  At the moment they will be used to test medicines on but maybe one day it could be possible to 3D print a whole kidney.  Freaking amazing! (more here);

 473.  My awesome kidney chickie.

Please excuse any typos - am blogging from the iPad as our regular internet is down :(

Throwback Thursday - Twins age 2 and Emma age 4 (I think).

Little Cuties

Today I am thanking God for:

468. Ashlea's aide at school today being very sensitive to Ashlea's distress. It was didgeridoo performance day and wIthin seconds Ashlea was a shaking, sobbing mess as Emma had predicted. They made a quick exit;

469. A nice long snooze while the girls were at school. Not just a nap - I was feeling a little seedy this morning (Ashlea's mystery illness perhaps?) so I went back to bed for FOUR glorious hours while they were at school;

470. Pizza for the family for dinner so I didn't have to cook. We have just discovered Dominos have a great allergy free / gluten free range and Emma is very excited to eat 'real' pizza again (rather than my home made ones).

Thankfulness May 21

Today I am thanking God for:

These little creatures are what I have to thank for the peaceful
moments in our house at the moment (except when they are
being fought over!)

465.  Ashlea's ability to make us all laugh - tonight's shower songs were from the movie Frozen as usual - but sung in Furbish;

466.  A little afternoon nap;

467.  Littlest Pet Shops.

Thankfulness May 20

Today I am thanking God for:

Ashlea's enthusiasm for school this morning.
She's had the last two days off due to a mysterious
(possibly mythical) illness.  She wasn't sharing my
enthusiasm for today's return to school.

461.  An uneventful annual skin cancer check;

462.  Low humidity days (it's good for the hair);

463.  Custard Tarts;

464.  Lovely playing without fighting by my girls this afternoon.  It seemed so wrong to interrupt them so they could do their homework.  Sadly by dinner time they were behaving like poo-heads again but it was an hour and a half of lovely play (screen free too).

Thankfulness May 19

Today I am thanking God for:

For Ashlea's teacher...

457.  Tea bags;

458.  My kettle;

459.  My microwave.

460.  My washing machine.  Life really is easy now.  My mum can remember my grandmother boiling up the washing in the copper.  How soft have we become in just a few generations!

And if anyone needs a dose of cute today a friend posted this on Facebook.  It's almost too much cuteness and is definitely not helping me resist the lure of getting a pet:   Cutest Video Ever of A Cat Mothering Ducklings.

Today I am thanking God for:

Diorama progress

454.  A family craft afternoon working on Audrey's bandicoot habitat diorama.  Grandma would like an A for her efforts.  Aunty Carolin definitely deserves an A for her efforts;

455.  Caramel mud cake with Mum for a belated Mother's Day afternoon tea;

456.   Hope.

Thankfulness May 17

Today I am thanking God for:

Give us a kiss Tom

449.  Friendly pet shop owners who let Ashlea get up close and personal with the merchandise;

450.  The strength to walk away from the ridiculously cute Ragdoll kittens for sale in the pet shop;

451.  A special young man's 18th birthday party;

452.  My glasses surviving me running over them with Ashlea's wheelchair;

453.  Spare plastic baggies.  Word to the wise - if you leave a (used) nappy in a baggy behind the back tire of your car so you don't forget to take it home with you when you go - DON'T DRIVE OVER IT.  Enough said.

Today I am thanking God for:

Pyjama Day

446.  Pyjama Power.  Ashlea came home early from school today as she wasn't feeling well.  She moped around for awhile but as soon as she had her pj's on she had a miraculous improvement. Funny that;

447.  Stunning autumn weather;

448.  Community.

Thankfulness May 15

Yesterday I posted a photo of Audrey having kangaroo care in honour of Kangaroo Care awareness day.   It's only fair that today I post a pic of Ashlea.  I had to wait 28 long days for my first cuddle with her as she was too sick until then.

First hold - 28 days - there is a tiny baby in there somewhere

First kangaroo cuddle - 30 days

Little cutie

Too wriggly for cuddles now

Today I am thanking God for:

443.  This amazing little baby and how far she has come;

444.  A warm comfy bed to sleep in;

445.  The ability to SMS friends far and wide on topics such as kidneys, thermomixes, powerchairs, food and Minecraft (among other things).

Thankfulness May 14

Facebook tells me that tomorrow is Kangaroo Care Awareness Day.  It seems there is a day for just about everything now but in honour of the day here is a pic of Audrey having kangaroo care when she was 3 weeks old.  Kangaroo Care is so beneficial to sick and premature babies but it is an absolute lifeline for their parents.  Amongst the stress of life in the nursery there was nothing better than getting to sit quietly with a tiny baby on my chest.

Not sure how much longer I'll be able to do this!

Today I am thanking God for:

442.  That once teeny tiny baby and all the lovely cuddles she still gives me;

443.  A little doze in the sun;

442.  Wagon Wheels.

Thankfulness May 13

Today I am thanking God:

Bed time shenanigans...

439.  For the opportunity to be the helper instead of the helpee for once - even if only in a tiny way;

440.  That when Ashlea said to me 'there's a rubber ducky in the toilet' she was referring to a game on her iPad and that I didn't actually have to remove a rubber ducky from the toilet;

441.  An empty shoe box found for Audrey's school assignment.  Watch this space as we attempt to create a diorama of a Bandicoot's habitat.

Can anyone say EYESORE and OVERKILL...?

436.  A lifter and an awning...I think;

437.  Freddo Frogs;

438.  My fluffy new house coat - so comfy and warm when I'm working from home.  Don't get me started on how stylish it is :)
