Thankfulness Sept 30

Today I am thanking God for:

Water fight - do you like our fancy water pistols???

900.  A great kidney check up for Ashlea;

901.  The reminder that a one hour wait for pathology is a luxury compared to the level of health care available to many;

902.  The reminder from my 'it's never over' pity party to be thankful that it's not over.  For kidney patients being tethered to a hospital is never over.  Even after a successful transplant it's not over.  If it's over it means you've lost the battle.  I'm thankful that it's not over;

903.  Ipads to ease waiting room boredom.  I can't remember what we did before we had one;

904.  Internet friends.  Not only do I have friends I only know online now my kids do too.  Today they got to skype their online minecraft friend (don't worry the parents sussed it out first).  Best thing ever apparently;

905.  Compulsory Outdoor Fun time in the delightfully summery weather.  Did I mention I hate winter?  I'm so thankful it's spring!

Psalm 146:2
I will praise the Lord all my life;
 I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Thankfulness Sept 29

Today I am thanking God for:

897.  Fun at the Colin Buchanan concert;

898.  Ashlea's improved concert tolerance.  She still freaked out but we were able to watch from the cry room once she had calmed down;

899.  The great ministry Colin has to both kids and adults.

Psalm 146:2
I will praise the Lord all my life;
 I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Thankfulness Sept 28

Today I am thanking God for:

894.  Gorgeous sunny afternoons for Compulsory Outdoor Fun Time;

895.  Another week of school holidays.  After painting themselves from head to toe with wet chalk they discovered it doesn't wash off easily;

896.  Some weeds killed.

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 27

Today I am thanking God for:

Magic mixer tap
891.  This mixer tap.  Actually I am thankful for this everyday.  It somehow magically keeps the water a steady temperature in the main bathroom no matter who turns on a tap anywhere else in the house;

892.  Chocolate biscuits;

893.  Ashlea cuddles (she told me to write that but it's true).

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 26

Today I am thanking God for:

Mummy may be a bit sore tomorrow after our Flip Out Fun!

887.  More flip out fun;

888.  Friends to flip out with;

889.  No flip out injuries - I did worry about the disapproving looks I might get at the hospital if I turned up with Ashlea with a broken arm or leg!  To their credit the Flip Out people didn't bat an eyelid when I asked to take Ashlea on and they only charged her half price;

890.  Home made pizza for dinner.

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 25

Today I am thanking God for:

884.  An art workshop for Emma;

885.  A visit to the great wall of budgies at Kellyville pets for Ashlea;

886.  Not too many cute furry / fluffy creatures at the pet shop for Audrey to want to take home.

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 24

Today I am thanking God for:

880.  A fun day at Featherdale with Grandma.  All the animals were awake and active (for those not local Featherdale only has Australian native animals which are known for being lazy and sleeping a lot).  Even the snakes were awake and slithering.  Grandma wasn't so keen on that bit;

881.  New lights in the kitchen thanks to our electrician friend who was able to recycle some LEDs for us;

883.  A gorgeous sunny spring day.

Audrey wanted to take this cute baby home

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 23

Today I am thanking God for:

877.  The chance to thank Variety for their contribution to our car conversion;

878.  A holiday sleep over with Grandma;

879.  A side trip to Ikea with the girls.  At first Emma was like 'How can you spend so much time in here?' but then by the end she was like 'I can kind of see how you spend so much time when you come here'.

Psalm 66:2
Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 22

Today I am thanking God for:

Can anyone see the flaw in this plan?

874.  A somewhat cleaner car (the bottom 2/3 anyway);

875.  A first letter written to our new Compassion sponsor child;

876.  A walk / scoot to the post box with Emma.  I'd really like to do more one on one stuff with each of the girls but short of cloning myself it is hard to find the time.  Today Emma and I enjoyed a nice walk in the afternoon sunshine.  Just quietly I am so unfit that I needed a rest on our return. Locals who know just how close the post box is need not comment :)

Of course this is how the car washing ended up:

Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious.

Thankfulness Sept 21

Today I am thanking God for:

873.  A sleep in;

874.  Friends with chickens who give us fresh eggs for our Sunday treats;

875.  Spring sunshine for Ashlea to enjoy some swing time;

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 20

Today I am thanking God for:

Sometimes I wonder if this child is
related to me!

870.  A quiet morning in our pyjamas to start the school holidays;

871.  A successful shopping trip with the girls to fill our Operation Christmas Child box.  It nearly didn't end well though when I told the kids we had to be thoughtful about what to get as this might be the only present this child receives.  What about Santa?  Surely they get Santa presents?? asked my smart cookies.  Oops.  Quick change of subject;

872.  The opportunity to remind my children that we really are very rich compared to many people in the world and have much to be thankful for.

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 19

Today I am thanking God for:

A holiday miracle is needed:  how many days in bleach for the school
shirts to look clean again...?

867.  The last day of school;

868.  A fun outing for Emma and Audrey to Flip Out (trampolining place) for the kids with One Arvo this afternoon.  Extra thankful for no broken bones or injuries on the eve of the school holidays;

869.  Did I mention it's school holidays???

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 18

Today I am thanking God for:

Only my child would bring home these
treasures from market day...

863.  A fun day for the kids at school market day;

864.  Smart phones - without them I wouldn't have captured many of Ashlea's 'firsts' on video;

865.  Computers that make it easy to stitch together all the phone clips of Ashlea's firsts into a video that shows the progression of her walking.  Whenever I watch it I can't stop grinning.  Have a look:

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 17

Today I am thanking God for:

I love the sound of girls giggling on the
trampoline

860.  The sound of my girls playing together.  Ashlea in particular has a very infectious giggle - I can't help but smile when I hear it;

861.  Some boring jobs taken care of - still plenty more to go but at least I've made a start;

862.  Days that are starting to get longer.  How many sleeps until daylight saving???

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 16

Today I am thanking God for:

Two years ago - where the walking started...
Once I realised Ashlea could stand and let
go we encouraged her to take a few steps

856.  The chance to see Ashlea's class perform in assembly.  They did a very cute song about transport with them (and their wheelchairs and walkers) all dressed up as planes, trains, cars and boats;

857.  Rachel's hamburgers for dinner;

858.  A slightly less untidy house at the end of the day compared to the beginning of the day;

859.  Ashlea's amazing walking progress over the last 2 years.  From those first shaky steps to Sunday's 2km walk.

Here are Ashlea's first steps in October 2012.  Clearly it took me a couple of weeks to make the connection between independent standing and walking.  In my memory it occurs on the same day but the photo and video are dated a month apart so there you go.

First steps video

Compare that to the most recent video of her walking that I have on my phone taken about a month ago at the sports carnival:

Thankfulness Sept 15

Today I am thanking God for:

Look at that concentration!

853.  Last Mad Monday for awhile - I have the next two weeks off and then the week after that is a public holiday - yeehaas;

854.  Art classes for Emma.  I doubt that she will ever be an artist but she is really enjoying it and you should see her being STILL and CONCENTRATING.  It's way cheaper than therapy and a whole lot more fun;

855.  Generous friends who sponsored Ashlea's Big Red Walk.

Psalm 9:2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

Thankfulness Sept 14

Today I am thanking God for:

What a little champion

849.  An awesome day at the Big Red Kidney Walk today raising money and awareness for kidney disease.   The walk is 2km and Ashlea decided she wanted to walk it - and walk it she did. The WHOLE way.  Emma and Audrey took turns riding in her wheelchair seeing as it was empty. We were so far behind everyone else by the time we finished but WHO CARES - this is a massive achievement for Ashlea.  It was beyond awesome;

850.  Ashlea's stamina and determination;

851.  Beautiful spring sunshine;

852.  First day wearing shorts and t-shirts for the season.

A first for the season that I am NOT happy to see...
Let the games begin!

Thankfulness Sept 13

Today I am thanking God for:

Our 50c fete purchase... How could I say no?
What could possibly go wrong...???

846.  School fete fun;

847.  Meals and veggies delivered by friends;

848.  Conversations with Ashlea:

God is on His throne waiting for us she told me this morning.  So unprepared was I for this level of conversation during choir drop off that I thought she said God was on the phone.

She followed up with Are we going to fly like the angels in heaven?  I may have answered yes.  Fellow Armchair Theologians what do you think?  Jesus says that we will be like the angels in heaven.  Do angels actually fly?  Or are they more tele porters?  My kids really want to be flying in heaven.  I know the whole point of eternity is that we will spend it with God and it doesn't matter if we will fly or not .... but it's fun to wonder and imagine what it might be like!

Psalm 147:7
Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.

Thankfulness Sept 12

Today I am thanking God for:

The love note

844.  Ashlea's lovely school friends;

845.  Ashlea's first love note.

Today Ashlea came home clutching a LOVE NOTE from her boyfriend Jack.  The hilarious thing is that neither Ashlea nor Jack can write.  Under interrogation the young lovers revealed that their classmate Cameron had been conscripted to play cupid by doing the hand writing.  So gorgeous.

Here is Ashlea's reply to Jack...

Psalm 147:7
Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.
